In our line of work we get to deal with all the breeds and sport horses and ponies & over the years have sold all the main breeds.
However, after selling hundreds upon hundreds of quiet riding with a 98% customer satisfaction success rate, (compared to an average under 40% satisfaction rate average of all other sellers), we have found no other breed ever comes close to our amazing TB ex racehorses.
These are the horses who pass our super strict assessment tests over other horses consistently.
With the Thoroughbred Racing Industry being so exclusive many people don't get to see or understand all the training these horses get before they even hit 4 years old.
Thoroughbreds have an astoundingly broad education and exposure base which is the reason they are also consistently the horses of choice for Mounted Police, Riding Schools etc.
Below is a comparison of the training an average TB Racehorse will receive before 4 years old compared to an average of other breeds in other sports.

Obviously not every TB is going to have the nature we are looking for in our horses. However the 20% we select are quiet & placid, making the perfect "been there done that" quiet riding horses we can ride around with no gear on and halter & lead bareback etc.
The reason TB's are so great bareback halter & lead is the fact they have been ridden so often in jockeys pads which are tiny and very similar to being bareback, along with having to work out for so long each different riders signals and adapt to each rider, making halter & lead just another adaptation easily adopted instantly.
Also they have seen a lot, a lot of harsh people around them and, a lot of kind people, this is why when you are gentle and kind with an ex racehorse they switch off so easily, bond with you and adapt into their new careers and lifestyles so easily. Unlike any other breed or sport horse.
The world is full of wonderful quiet TB ex racehorses being ridden by all, from beginners to advanced riders, enjoyed by families, used by Mounted Police, Riding Schools, Trail Riding businesses, and also competing to the highest levels in the world consistently in English and Western fields as they operate with both neck reining, (Western Style riding), and general English riding while they are a racehorse.
There is NO other breed and sport in the world that turns out such highly exposed and experienced horses to go on to other careers, homes and pursuits.
As you can tell, we are a fan for good reason.
And for those thinking an ex racehorse is just going to want to gallop, our experience is the opposite. You have to remember these horses are made to run. It's no longer a novelty or a thrill, it's work.
So they are so happy when this is no longer required of them and are happy to plod along slowly and with all their experience under their belt there is hardly anything that can phase them and when you consider the main cause of a rider falling off is a horse spooking suddenly at something, this is the reason we very rarely hear of our clients falling off our horses.
Don't get me wrong, falling off a horse is part of horse riding. If you ride you will fall off. It is an unavoidable reality. There is not a rider alive that has ridden for a decent length of time that has never fallen off. It's a regular part of learning to ride and of riding in general and unavoidable. My riding school instructor used to tell all of us when we were kids that you're not a good rider till you've fallen off 100 times haha. People generally don't get hurt falling off and you will learn to fall better as you go along.
However having a horse that has been exposed to more scary things and environments minimizes this dramatically.
Big shout out to those who have bought our horses, settled them in kindly, built a bond with them and are out there showing off your real horse skills.
You are welcome to contact me for any help you may need along the way, ongoing no matter how long ago you bought your horse.
For those who may also want to interchange their horses purchased with another, contact us and we can work this out with you, no matter how long ago you bought your horse, we offer this to all past clients in goodwill because we know circumstances can change, so there's absolutely no reason any client should be ever stuck with a horse they don't want or without help, nor a horse left in an unsuitable home.
Have a great day peepz
~Phoebe
